Dr. Elizabeth Hazlegrove

Veterinarian

Dr. Elizabeth Hazlegrove graduated from the College of William & Mary with a BS in Biology and a BA in Anthropology.   She Received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Virginia Tech.  Upon receiving her doctorate, she began general practice at Powhatan Animal Hospital.  A few years later she moved to Andersonville Animal Clinic and in 2008 she had the opportunity to purchase Andersonville Animal Clinic.

While building the Andersonville practice, Dr. Hazlegrove still held onto her lifelong dream of being able to practice veterinary medicine in her home county of Cumberland.  In 2012 her dream was fulfilled when she built her new practice in Cumberland and combined the 2 practices into Cumberland Animal Hospital.

When not at work, Dr. Hazlegrove resides on the family farm with her husband and two daughters.  They raise Hereford cattle, hogs, sweet potatoes and hay.  They also have chickens, cats, and dogs.  She and her family enjoy working on the farm together and spending lots of time outdoors.  Fishing, four wheeling, gardening, and playing with her daughters are some of her favorite hobbies. Her daughters keep her busy with sports, showing cattle, and cooking.

Kathryn

Office Manager/Technician

Kathryn graduated with a BS degree in Anthropology from Longwood College, ran a family business for several years, and then found her dream career in the veterinary field in 1998. With 10 years of experience in the field, Kathryn joined our team in 2008. An avid outdoor fan and animal lover, Kathryn has enjoyed many outdoor and animal activities such as horseback riding, various types of hunting and fishing, James River excursions, VSAR, dog showing, raising chickens, raising and showing rabbits, and gardening.   When not working, Kathryn and her husband are busy keeping up with their 2 children and maintaining their farmette in Buckingham.

Therie

Licensed Veterinary Technician

Therie grew up on her family’s farm here in Cumberland.  In the summer of 2012 she joined the team of Cumberland Animal Hospital.  May of 2019, Therie graduated from Blue Ridge Community Colleges Veterinary Technician program and is now a licensed veterinary technician.  When not at the hospital caring for animals she enjoys spending time hunting and fishing.  Often on her fishing expeditions she takes along her miniature schnauzer and labrador retriever who love fishing just as much as she does.

Cindy

Receptionist

Cindy grew up in Richmond with her 10 brothers & sisters. She had a 25-year career in restaurant management before her love for animals took over, and she changed to customer service in the veterinary field 7 years ago. Cindy became a vital part of our team when she joined us in 2011. In her spare time, Cindy enjoys her pool, gardening, and strolling through the woods with her husband and their 2 dogs; the 6 cats prefer to watch from the house. 

Kate

Receptionist/Technician

Kate, a former engineer for the US Coast Guard, has enjoyed working at veterinary clinics in central Virginia since 2006.  She loves working with animals and especially learning new techniques and procedures.  In her free time she loves gardening and baking.

Jessica

Technician

Jessica went to Fuqua School from pre-k to her senior year. She graduated in May of 2015. She is now attending John Tyler Community College completing her General Studies Her goal is to attend Blue Ridge Community College in the fall of 2017 to get her vet teach license. She has worked with us since 2013. She has always wanted to pursue a career in the veterinary field, and working here is helping her to accomplish her goals. She lives on a farm with her parents and her  younger sister. She has a dog and cat along with cows and pigs. She loves fishing, raising hunting dogs with her dad, shopping with her mom and sister, hanging out with friends, and, most of all, working here at the clinic where she can love the animals. 

Rod

Technician

Rod began working in the veterinary field in Fairfax, VA in 2003.   While living in NoVA,  he enjoyed learning about many different areas of animal care including exotics and emergency medicine. He spent two years studying and working with a veterinary cardiology practice. Upon relocating back to southern Virginia, he happily joined our team in October 2015.  Rod has special interests in assisting with surgical procedures, including all things ocular.   When not working, Rod enjoys travelling and taking in the arts, especially live music concerts of all genres and comedy shows. He lives in Crewe, VA with his fiancé and their two cats, Winston and Binx.

Beverly

Technician

Beverly came to us with animal husbandry and customer service experience from working several years in the pet retail industry. In 2007, she switched to the veterinary field and became a solid member of our team. Beverly really enjoys being around animals and balances her time between helping us and taking care of her family. In their down time, Beverly and her husband enjoy family time, gardening, and playing with their animals. Beverly passes on her passion for animals to her children while helping them care for the family’s 4 dogs, cat, and 4 chickens.

Tanya

Kennel Manager

Tanya grew up pet-sitting for neighbors, spending weekends and vacations on her aunt’s horse farm, and bringing home every turtle, snake, or other animal she found. She is an avid sports fan, loves hunting, fishing, and camping. She and her husband are empty-nesting on a farm in Buckingham where they enjoy hanging out with the horses, goats, and chickens, as well as training and hunting with their Small Munsterlander, Blaze.
